Overview

Estancia De Los Rios is located north of Coyhaique on the Argentina-Chile border. A 360,000 acre ranch is set in a wide valley in Chile’s Patagonia near the Argentina-Chile border. The pristine, crystal waters of the Cisnes river, along with 6 or more of its trout-filled tributaries plus spring creeks, meander more than 60 miles through this ranch. The proximity to the Andes allows a transition from temperate rain forest to open prairies and mountain valleys making for a wide diversity of environments within easy reach from the lodge. In this Trout haven, up to 12 privileged anglers will find nearly every type of trout fishing experience and landscape they could dream of.

Accommodations

This comfortable lodge, designed to the specifications of second-generation guides and lodge operators the Dufflocqs,(the grandson of the Frenchman who brought the Cabernet grape vine to Chile in the late 1800's) boasts well-appointed accommodations, and features great meals and all the amenities of home. Comfortably accommodating up to twelve guests, each of the six large rooms has twin beds and a modern, spacious private bathroom. Telephone, internet service and fax plus a Laundry room are also available at this beautiful lodge. Dinner features fine Chilean wines and fish stories. Fine foods including fresh seafood. A weekly asado (barbeque) provides the true taste of Chile with open-fire roasted lamb, fine wines and traditional guitar music and songs.

Fishing

You will enjoy six and ½  days of fishing at Estancia de los Rios. Your guide will show you what to look for in order to locate fish. Once you've mastered that, you will be amazed at how many fish you will be casting to. The challenge here is to spot the largest fish within your range. Although nymphs and streamers are very effective, the main method in this program is world class dry fly fishing. Miles of fishing in total solitude provide a truly soothing experience in today's hustle with the exception of the occasional passing gaucho on horseback. There is a wide variety water from spring creeks with large fish for those wanting a technical challenge to stretches of water perfect for the novice- where instant success will build confidence in fishing techniques. All fishing beats are less than 1 hour from the lodge. A day float trip on the larger rivers combines viewing of spectacular natural beauty with great fishing. The gravel-bottomed waters within the estancia make for easy wading. The experienced English-speaking guides not only provide great tips for taking trout but are knowledgeable of the history and geology of this remarkable land. The streams are loaded with Brown Trout. Often guests are wading in shin deep water casting to pods of rising trout. Hatches are excellent. Leave the sink-tip home (unless you want to go for the 10 pounders in a few of the deep pools). Noted angling author Dave Hughes describes the Cisnes as "the perfect trout stream." In addition to the Rio Cisnes, the Estancia has numerous spring creeks and streams (some to yet see a fly). This program offers optional horse trips to remote ranch streams overnighting at various cabins and campsites on the estancia.

Rods and reels can be rented at the lodge and flies are available for purchase.
