It is a luxury tented lodge, overlooking the Chobe River on the south side of Impalila Island, at the very eastern tip of the Caprivi Strip. Owned and run by the friendly and knowledgeable Ralph and Dawn, it has eight large safari tents amid the river-side forest. This lodge provides guests with a true African experience. Located in one of the world's finest wetland areas, it offers superb game viewing opportunities, bird watching and the chance to try to catch the mighty Tiger Fish. It has its own airstrip with customs and immigration facilities.
The main lodge buildings have been constructed over the river, with thatch roofs and set under large, shady trees. The rooms are en-suite with a spacious private bathroom, and mosquito netting. Laundry service is supplied. There is a lounge and bar area, and home-cooked meals are served from the chef's menu, and served in either the indoor or outdoor dining areas. Meals are served family –style and are freshly prepared and generous in amount. Special dietary requirements can be taken into consideration. House wines, beer, and soft drinks are included. Power is supplied by 2 generators. There is also a swimming pool and deck nestled at the edge of the river, where guests can have a dip and then soak up the sun, in this amazing, distinctive environment. For an unusual compliment to the lodge, consider spending a night or two on one of the two Ichobezi Houseboats which ply the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers. (Advance request required). The Ichobezi Moli and Ichobezi Mukwae each have four cabins that overlook the stunning views on the river, while the top decks have a plunge pool, bar and lounge, and tender boats for short excursions.
This luxury lodge prides itself on the knowledgeable guides who work here. The guides have good success records in landing Tiger Fish, especially when fly-fishing. There is boat access to over 60 miles of prime water on the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers. Each habitat offers a different challenge from conventional to fly-fishing methods. The Tiger fish which grows to 20lbs is the main prize, however there are a number of 'bream' species, catfish, African pike and Upper Zambezi Yellowfish. The Ichingo Chobe River is also a premier fly-fishing destination. The excellent guides and jet boats can access rapids even in low water.
After arriving at Kasane, you will be met by a lodge representative and transferred to the lodge by boat.
In addition to fishing, you may choose to spend time “Game viewing” some animals in this area include: elephant, buffalo, kudu, waterbuck, bushbuck and giraffe, and baboons. In the river see numerous hippos and crocodiles, particularly from May to September. Viewing from Ichobezi Luxury Safari boats and the Ichingo Chobe River Lodge will give a whole different perspective than viewing from a 4X4 land vehicle. Photographic safaris over waterways and floodplains of Chobe National Park offer outstanding photographic opportunities. A wide diversity of wildlife inhabiting this stunning and scenic area always provides that unique shot. The lodge's expert guide maneuvers the boat to the exact spot for the required light. This photo-safari is ideal for both experts and amateurs. Birding is another activity. Prolific birdlife is one of the Caprivi's main draws. One can view many of the 400 woodland and wetland species recorded in the region. Between March and September summer migrators move in large numbers adding to the excellent birding opportunities, observed from a lodge excursion or by safari boat. Day trips to the Victoria Falls are popular as the road journey is only one and a half hours.
Ichingo can easily combined with most trips to Botswana – or even used for a short side-trip of a few days when staying in the Livingstone area.
